A GO Fellow gives a year of service as part of the federal AmeriCorps program, providing high-dosage tutoring and mentoring students at partner schools throughout the Northeast. Past Fellows have found the experience to be among the most challenging and rewarding of their lives. It has provided them with the skills and experience to begin a career in education or simply to give back to the community before going on to pursue a career outside of education. Many report that the experience is what set them apart from others when applying to graduate school or to competitive job openings. About the Program Make a Difference Fellow Impact GO AmeriCorps Fellows serve as tutors, supplementing the instruction that students receive in the classroom. As a Fellow, you’ll also serve as a mentor and role model for the future that students themselves hope to achieve. Your work will: Help students and their families stay connected to their school Close the achievement gap between urban students and their suburban peers Propel students to succeed in college and career Our Model Our Network Get To Know Our Schools As a Fellow, your year of service will be spent in one of the partner schools, where you’ll provide tutoring in English and math during the school day, working with students using instructional materials aligned with those used in the classroom. You’ll also be a mentor to a small number of students, lead after-school programming, and help keep students and their families connected to the school. GO partners with charter schools in urban neighborhoods throughout the Northeast, from Baltimore, Maryland, to Hartford, Connecticut. We choose partner schools that share our belief in a Growth Mindset” for their students. Our work is based on an approach that started over a decade ago at the Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark, New Jersey.
